(ORAL & POSTER PRESENTATIONS)

Submission of a paper for the Proceedings Volume is mandatory for both oral and poster presentations.

Please note: The above deadline remains firm, even though the Proceedings volume (CD and book) will not be available until 6 weeks after the Symposium. While we can not promise the Proceedings volume until that time (due to staffing considerations), we hope to have staff available August 1, 2001 to produce it in time for distribution at the Symposium.

Paper:

• Acrobat .pdf without security password PREFERRED
• If Acrobat .pdf is not an option, Word or WordPerfect can be used.
• If an electronic version is not possible, you may submit a paper copy.

Formatting instructions:

• General
  • 8.5" x 11" for page size
    • WordPerfect: File / Page Setup / Size / Letter 8.5" x 11"
    • Word: File / Page Setup / Paper Size / Letter 8 ½ x 11 in
  • Margins - all margins on all pages 1 inch
  • Font - Helvetica
  • No page numbers
  • Justification - left justified (flush left) - no right or full justification, please
  • If you are going to submit your paper in .pdf format, set Acrobat Distiller as your default printer. This will help prevent text reflows when you distill the document.
• Parts of Paper
  • Title - 20 point bold
  • Authors - 14 point bold
    • primary author first
    • other authors
    • underline presenting author
    • use superscript numbers to identify organization/address
  • Organizations - 12 points - appropriate superscript number followed by name/address of organization
  • Keywords - 12 points
  • Body (text of paper) - 12 points
    • do not use lines, bars, etc., which are generated using "fill"
    • use colors instead of textures/patterns for delineation (as within bars or columns)
    • make sure "medium" is selected for the lines of the outside border of figures/graphs instead of "fine"
    • 6 pages or less preferred
    • a charge of US$25.00/page will be incurred for any pages over 8
  • Bibliography/References - 12 point
• Acrobat instructions:
  • Set Acrobat Distiller as your default printer, then open your document and check for text reflows.
  • Printers folder / Acrobat Distiller / Properties / Fonts tab / Send Fonts As - make sure Type 42 is selected and also 0 for threshold.
  • Start / Programs / Distiller - use Print Optimized option (defaults in this job option are Acrobat 4.0 compatibility, embed all fonts, subset all embedded fonts below 100%).
  • After distilling, check log to make sure there are no warning messages.
  • If there are font warning messages, repeat Step 1 using Outlines instead of Type 42 and then distill again and check the log.
  • If you like, you may fill in title, author, and keyword fields in Document Information. We will do this for you if you leave them blank. We will use the subject field for the name of the session.
  • DO NOT add security.
